Signing petitions
Who can sign the recall petition?
Although this affects over 500,000 people, only Temple residents who are registered voters can sign the petition to recall. If you aren’t registered to vote, we can get you signed up onsite. You can also learn how to register at VoteTexas.gov.
Who can sign the charter petition?
Any registered Temple voter can sign. Forget about districts: as long as someone is a registered voter in Temple, they can sign your petition. Districts only exist to help us organize our volunteer groups. Read about the charter petition.
Where can you collect signatures?
Everywhere! Bring your petition form to church, youth sports games, the pool, or outside Walmart. If there are Temple voters there, go right ahead!
Can I sign online?
No. The City Charter requires “wet” signatures witnessed by a resident. Signing online petitions did not have any effect, so petitions have to be signed in person to count.
If you can’t make it to us, we can send someone to you. Email TempleStandsTogether@gmail.com to have someone drive to your home.
The recall
These answers come from our campaign to recall members of Temple’s city government. Read more about the recall.
Why recall?
We are recalling our city government after realizing our Mayor and City Council had guaranteed to Rowan’s parent company that we would become the largest hub for data centers. The only way we can stop these is to remove our leaders from their positions. Read the reasons behind the recall.
How many signatures?
We need just over 17,500 signatures for the mayor and about 4,500 for each council person before May 20. As of May 1, we are over one fifth of the way there. We have over 12,000 people standing with us, so it’s time to sign the petition. We need all of you to fix this.
Needs reviewThese numbers and May deadlines are from spring 2026, so replace them with the recall’s final outcome.
Needs reviewThe old site gives different recall numbers in different places (17,500 or about 17,400 for the mayor; about 4,500, 4,700, or 5,000 for council members), so pick one set.
What’s next?
When we hand in the signatures to have them counted, we will also have a temporary restraining order so they cannot force any other data centers through. We will then file the injunction that will allow us to get our environmental, baseline toxicity, and impact studies done. Once our county can see how this will affect us, we can vote on whether to proceed.
Who will fill the roles?
We have several people standing up for the job. If you are interested in running for office, or in helping those who do, fill out our form and we will have the team reach out.
Fill out the run-for-office form
Needs reviewThe run-for-office form currently asks visitors to sign in to Google, so its sharing settings need fixing.
How can I help if I can’t sign?
After you sign, or if you can’t sign, you can still help. We need protestors, block walkers, phone banks, social media help, Cotton Patch shifts, and more.
Fill out the volunteer form or see all the ways to get involved.
Who are the organizers?
We are Temple residents and Bell County residents. We have lived here for years and care about our community and the investment we have put into this town. We are truly cross-partisan, and we come from all backgrounds, parties and faiths. What binds us together is love: love for this community and love for each other. More about who we are.
Staying safe
What if I’m afraid of retaliation?
If we somehow don’t get enough signatures, we won’t turn in the petition. We already have thousands, and they can’t punish all of us. When we win, they are out of power.
If you feel you are already being targeted in retaliation, please reach out to us as we consider legal options.
Are you afraid to use your name?
Let that sink in. If you believe that our local city government would take retribution after we ask for the Charter Citizens’ Right To Know, that is even more reason to unseat them. You can still take part:
- Create a new email and funnel all things through there.
- You can come to our meetings anonymously; you only have to sign up for things if you want.
- Find someone to work with you (friends, family, church, organizations). There is strength in numbers.
Questions about the City Council
These are the excuses that could be used to explain the Council’s silence, and our answers.
What if they genuinely don’t know?
We have sent the information and have had zero response.
What if they didn’t get the emails?
The mayor, city manager, and a city council member have not only emailed us, texted us, shown up to our events, and visited in person, but also served on our non-profit board. It is highly unlikely the email was unopened.
What about new information you didn’t include?
We offered all of the information to them during city council meetings. You can find proof on the City of Temple YouTube account under city council meetings. They have never called, texted, or answered emails.
